Protein phosphorylation is one of the most common mechanisms for cellular regulation in eukaryotic system. It is well known that serine/threonine kinase plays a key role in plant. We isolated a putative protein kinase gene from Oriza sativa which is induced its gene expression on transcriptional level respond to cold stress. Expression profiling shows that this gene is regulated on transcriptional level by light. Surprisingly, cold treatment also can make turn this gene on under dark condition. This result indicates that this putative protein kinase is involved in convergent signal pathway of cold stress and light.
