Obvious interest to Miscanthus as a modern energy plant put the question of genetic improvement and breeding of high productive clones. In our work new data regarding to comparative study of morphological traits and chemical composition of dry biomass among three species and one interspecies natural hybrid clone of Miscanthus growing in two different places at Portugal and Russia was received. Unique, never used before, cold-resistant, endemic for the Far East, Russia, original plant material was used. High spectrum of intra- and interspecies variability in plant height, shoot density, flowering time, pollen fertility, accumulation of mineral nutrition and fiber quality was revealed. Received results has shown extreme environmental tolerance of Miscanthus and possibility to use studied species as valuable potential resource of gene biodiversity although polymorphism among clones of Miscanthus having the vegetative type of propagation is restricted by somaclonal variation.
