Five 2-hour sessions on plant physiology, and its applications in the garden and greenhouse, have been developed since 1998. The recommended text for the course has been Reaching for the Sun: How Plants Work by John King (Cambridge University Press). Topics have included photosynthesis, respiration, water relations, translocation, mineral nutrition, hormones, development and stress(drought, freezing, stress due to insects and diseases). Lectures have included practical aspects of gardening outside and in greenhouses ,in the Victoria, B.C. area.An attempt has been made to include recent developments in plant physiology in the presentations. The goal of the course has been to explain how plants function, and how plant physiology is related to many horticultural practices in the garden, nursery and greenhouse.
