Ethylene regulates many aspects of plant growth and development. 1-Aminocyclopropane-1-caboxylic acid synthase (ACS) is the key enzyme in regulation of ethylene biosynthesis in higher plants. Elucidation of the regulation of gene expression of ACS gene family in plant will offer some insights about how ethylene production is regulated in response to developmental and environmental cues. To that end, we fused the promoters of Arabidopsis ACS gene members AtACS2, AtACS4, AtACS5 and AtACS7 to the GUS reporter gene. The chimeric constructs were introduced into Arabidopsis. Histochemical and fluorogenic analysis of GUS activities of these transgenic plants revealed that these four ACS genes are differentially regulated.
