700: Effect of 4,4,4-trifluoro-3-(indole-3-) butyric acid on root growth and gene expression
The effect of 4,4,4-trifluoro-3-(indole-3-) butyric acid (TFIBA) on the growth primary root was studied in Arabidopsis thaliana, Linum usitatissimum (flax), Oryza sativa cv. Bengal (rice), and Zea mays (corn). TFIBA promoted primary root elongation significantly in flax, rice, and corn but not in Arabidopis. Even though the promotion effect varied among the three species, the optimal concentration in all cases was about 5x10-5 M. In Arabidopsis, TFIBA >10-6 M inhibited root elongation. The inhibition was independent of pH. To further address the mechanism of TFIBA promotion in root growth, DDRT-PCR is being used to identify up- and down-regulated genes after TFIBA application in flax roots. The possible mechanism of TFIBA function is discussed.
