We used an 8987-EST collection to construct a cDNA microarray for which related to other genomics information (full-length cDNA, expression profile, high accuracy genome sequence, phenotype, genetic map, and physical map) in rice. This array was used as a probe to hybridize target RNAs prepared from plant of various physiological condition (approximately 600 kinds of targets). To detect similar expression profiles (cross-talk) and other profiles of interest, we used various genes, for which they were altered expression level in each experimental conditions, in hierarchical cluster analysis of various experimental details of rice expression profiles available in the Rice Expression Database (RED: http://red.dna.affrc.go.jp/RED/). These dendrogram showed various notable clusters in each cluster analysis. These cluster were included not only genes for similar expression profiles but also genes for an antagonistic response among various experimental conditions. For instance, antagonistic response in 33 kinds of experimental conditions detected between water stress response gene and gene for sucrose synthase protein.
